Dear IEEE Colleagues, It is a great honor for me to be chosen by the IEEE-USA Board as one of its President-Elect candidates. I believe that I am qualified for that important post, and I am asking you for your support. Who am I? What makes me feel qualified to lead this institution created more than 25 years ago to protect and preserve the professional interests and needs of our US members? I am an individual who believes that a complete professional is one who not only endeavors to contribute to his or her technical discipline, but also one who strives to be a mentor for the younger ones, and one who is ready to give back to the profession through volunteering leadership. I have done those things and I am ready to do more. Why do I want to be president of IEEE-USA? IEEE-USA is the arm of IEEE that goes beyond Technical Activities. It is aimed, among other things, at career vitality and services, and the promotion of government legislations and policies in support of the profession and of societys well being. IEEE-USA faces some challenges ahead for the US professionals, and I believe that, as a broad-based professional with experience in engineering R&D leadership, academia, and a proven record of IEEE governance, I can lead us through those challenges. As President-Elect then President, I will strive to:
IEEE-USA needs a leader who understands its role and the professional needs of its US members, a leader with judgment and wisdom, a leader who has the vision of how those needs are to be fulfilled, a leader who has the ability to guide and execute policies in the best interest of the organization, the membership, and society, and who is willing and able to carry plans to achieve them. If elected, I will endeavor to meet those objectives and serve you to the best of my abilities.
